The event is both to celebrate the launch of our recent special issue on ‘creative urban methods’ in Mediapolis<\/a>, and to discuss the merits of innovative ways for studying Media Cities.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Monday, January 22nd, [urban interfaces] joins forces with the IOS Platform for Open Cities (OCP)<\/a> and the focus area Governing the Digital Society (SIG \u201cInclusion in the Datafied City\u201d)<\/a> to organize a roundtable event on Creative Urban Methods. The event follows, centers around, and builds upon the recent publication of an edited dossier on creative urban methods in the online journal Mediapolis.<\/a><\/p>\n

With this collection of articles, the editorial team, consisting of Sigrid Merx, Coco Kanters, Michiel de Lange, and Nanna Verhoeff, aims to explore the merits of creative methods for researching contemporary cities and urban culture. A growing catalog of new and innovative creative methods for urban inquiries demonstrates a wide array of theoretical approaches, critical concepts, and scholarly techniques. This dossier presents seven articles that think through the epistemological and ethical grounding of specific creative methods developed in direct response to particular, situated inquiries that are all, in their specific ways, related to, and responding to various (inter-)local, urban realities.<\/p>\n

The event will start by offering some of our dossier\u2019s authors the possibility to introduce their articles. Authors Anastasia Hacopian, Noortje van Amsterdam, Irina van Aalst and Gery Nijenhuis, Inte Gloerich and Gabriele Ferri, and others will pitch their articles and share their works\u2019 most pivotal points. Afterward, the authors and audience will be joined by guest speakers from urban studies and creative methods to discuss and think about creative methods with and about cities. We will close the event with some drinks.<\/p>\n
