{"id":2060,"date":"2023-11-15T09:12:10","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T08:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bijt.org\/wordpress\/?p=2060"},"modified":"2023-11-15T09:22:33","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T08:22:33","slug":"landlords-in-washington-dc-accused-of-using-software-to-keep-rent-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bijt.org\/wordpress\/2023\/11\/15\/landlords-in-washington-dc-accused-of-using-software-to-keep-rent-high\/","title":{"rendered":"Landlords in Washington DC accused of using software to keep rent high"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2023\/11\/14-big-landlords-used-software-to-collude-on-rent-prices-dc-lawsuit-says\/\">Ars Technica reports<\/a> about a lawsuit filed against 14 DC landlords who are accused of having colluded \u201cwith a property management software firm to keep rent prices high in a city with a housing affordability crisis.\u201d The software company RealPage suggests rental prices to landlords, based on the data that they feed the software company. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sounds like a very risky data feedback loop to me anyway, but apparently these 14 landlords in DC joined forces with the company to keep rent prices artificially high on the platform.
